The Great Move- Thursday/ Friday

So we didn't move, but my parents did!! Most of you know that they've been working on their new house for almost 2 years. It started out as a rental, and then developed into a dream home. Watching the transformation has been exciting and amazing all at once!

Here is a small glimpse at the before....

And the After will be in the next posts.....

We drove up to the "old" house Thursday night. It took us forever because our kids were insane. But oh well- kids are kids. Friday morning started early... Dad and Lee moved all of the beds and most of the heavy stuff using Adam's truck and a trailer. Those two physically worked their tails off that day!!!

Our kids were great the whole time. They had a blast playing in the bushes
Will wanted to help and be a part of the "men"
I was impressed that Mom's sewing machine was one of the first things transferred!
For obvious reasons, I wasn't allowed to do much.... my contribution to this weekend consisted of putting a lamp together (but I did it wrong and thankfully Dad fixed it, because Mom was about to take it back), putting snow boots on Adeline so she could play outside (I couldn't find her other shoes) and taking pictures/watching kids. And for that, somehow I pulled a muscle (in my groin??) so badly that on Saturday night I literally could not walk. Everyone was worried that it was 'baby' related, but I knew it wasn't. I do have a lot of pressure though and I'm sure that contributed to it.

Anyway... enough about me. ... while Lee and Dad moved the heavier things, Mom packed up smaller items and made trips back and forth.
Living room starting to come together
First look at the bookshelf, fireplace and bar
The kids entertaining themselves
We were all exhausted and enjoyed Chinese for dinner
Anna and Stratton arrived in time for the last piece of furniture- a night stand!
They had Stratton bring it in. :)
Friday night was interesting as we had storms threatening all day. Thankfully, it never rained until late. Then tornadoes threatened our surrounding area. Since there we had no tv or internet, no one had any idea how close they were. We stayed in the garage apartment (the "treehouse" as Amy calls it) and Lee had taken the kids to bed... I was following (it was close to 10pm) and the extremely kind neighbor called saying a tornado was headed straight for Marietta Square. Well, my parents live about 3 blocks from the square, so that was pretty close! The neighbor invited us over to their storm shelter to wait it out. So we gathered everyone together and crowded in the space. It's actually pretty cool. I've never been in an actual "tornado" room before.

The storms passed right over and all was safe and sound. We were only over there for about 10 minutes and then we were able to head back and get the much needed rest! Although Mom and Dad didn't sleep so well....! Apparently the porch light from the "treehouse" shone in their room all night and then at 2am a HUGE crash woke them up. Dad had hung their bathroom mirror before they went to bed, but the glue didn't dry- and it came crashing down, shattering into a million pieces! They spent the next hour cleaning up the shards of mirror.

They definitely did not have a good "1st night in the new house" sleep! (and they teased that they were slightly worried about the "7 years bad luck" omen!)

  1. Thanks so much for such a great tour of the weekend. Looks though you all worked hard you had a great time. Poor Stratton, he must have had a hard time with that night stand. Glad you all had a place to go during the storm. Gram and I always worry every time we see a chance they are near you guys. I can't imagine not having a place to go for safety. A bathroom just doesn't give me the safety factor I would be comfortable with. Your mom does look great. Her success even gave me the idea to work on weight. (I always knew but just didn't implememt) I'm not nearly as far as her, but am feeling good about it anyway. And Uncle Steve is doing a great job as well, helping out his diabetes significantly. Lee is right, take it easy working on the new additions to your home. Thanks again for being the family archivist. Love always.

  2. I too feel like Lynn regarding your great film tour of the weekend. You sure did get a load of wonderful pictures. I can hardly wait until I get down to see it all in person. I only have a short wait now. Look forward to seeing you all. Love to all, Gram
