I was thinking today that 2 great milestones happened while at my parents last weekend and I forgot to post about them.
First- For any of you who know Adeline (Anna/Stratton's daughter) you know she is very picky about who she "likes." More importantly, whom she allows to hold her pacifier, blanket and sippy cup that she's always toting around (yes, she always has all three). Well, folks, I am here to say- that I got to be the holder many times! And she not only had one blanket- she had 3. So yes, Fun Aunt Sarah strikes again- slowly but surely luring these kids into realization of how "FUN" I am. :)
Second- I'm not sure if everyone knows the "air conditioning rule." Ever since I can remember there has been one hard/strick rule in the Nagel household.... NO, absolutely NO air conditioning until June 1st. Well, in GA, things can get pretty hot by then. The only (and I mean only) exception to this rule was if Grandma came to visit. Thankfully, many years she came in May and we kids were soooo excited!! (Gram- you may have thought our hugs and tears of joy were because of your visit, they weren't. It was really because so we could stop sweating after our morning shower)
Well, one night, it was really hot. Well, mainly humid, but that translated into heat. We joked about turning the air on, I mean, really? It was only March 2. There's no way that would actually happen. So Mom shocked all of us when she said, "go ahead, turn it on." (screeeeeeeeech!!! WHAT????!!!! I actually thought it was some kind of strange 'mother' test). Anna was like, "No way, I'll be fine." I was still scared of the "test." A few minutes later, Mom said again, " Go ahead, turn it on. I don't care." (WHAT???!!!) Anna still didn't want to and I figured I wasn't going to let this opportunity pass. I walked over and flipped the switch.
Mary Ellen Nagel actually turned on her air conditioning on March 2, 2012. Is anyone else gasping in amazement????
The really funny thing is the next day, Lauren was over and someone said something about the humidity. Lauren said, "Please don't tell your Mom, but I was so hot last night that I had to turn my air on." Then I gasped with, "Noooo!!! She LET us turn on her's last night!" Lauren was as amazed as the rest of us. She then said she was afraid to say anything because as she was flipping her switch she thought, "Mary Ellen would kill me if she knew I turned my air on March 2nd!" hahahaha. So thank you spray insulation- you have provided a complete draft free environment and thus allowed the infamous "air conditioning rule" to finally be obliterated! My, oh my!! WHAT NEXT??!!
Amy and I watched a Taylor Swift concert the other morning. She quickly decided she wanted to join in. She grabbed her toy guitar and fashioned this microphone stand. The microphone part is the middle of a stacking toy and the stand is the attachments to the vacuum. Then she propped it onto a chair (held by the DVD's). When it kept falling, she shoved it in the couch cushions.
I swiped this old rotary phone from Karen's attic and Amy has had a ball with it. This particular night, I kept hearing her talk. When I checked on her, she was curled in her bed, chatting away to Savannah. This girl misses that little girl SOOO much. There isn't a day that goes by she doesn't talk about her. I guess all of that time spent together really bonded them! (While I thought it was early for Will to insist on a Spiderman shirt, I also thought it was early for Amy to be huddled, talking quietly on the phone, when she should be asleep. I swear my kids are teenagers in kid bodies)
And just a picture of Will. He LOVES popcorn. He didn't really want to share it with Amy and kept pushing her away. Does anyone else think he grew?? He looks so tall here!
I too think he has grown. One of the pictures a few days ago made me take a second glance. I'm sure he is growing--measure him. He is such a big boy now he has lost the baby look. Afterall he is Spiderman now you know !!!! Love to you all, Gram
