Congratulations Amy!!

Today we got a very exciting letter..... Amy got into the Discovery School!

We are so excited for her!

I'm not very familiar with the school system here, actually, it's really confusing. But there are a bunch of charter schools, which are all a part of the city school system. "Discovery" is the only charter elementary school. From what we can gather, it's just a little more advanced than the regular elementary school. For example, at the beginning of the year I asked a friend the difference. She said that her friend's daughter was in Kindergarten at a city school and they were reviewing colors and shapes. But her son (at Discovery) was already having weekly spelling tests. I guess they also do a lot of experiments and hands on stuff.

We don't know a ton because we missed both "parent info" meetings because we didn't know they were happening. I 'happened' to check the website in December to see when applications for testing began. I thought they would be due in the spring, but nope- they were due that Friday! Wowers! I quickly printed and mailed ours off. Then some friends told me that people have had their applications in for months and our chances were probably slimmer because of that. (I don't know how true that is)

Well, since we aren't familiar with the whole "charter school" concept, the idea was new to us. But we've heard really good things and thought we'd try it out. For Kindergarten, they have to test to get into it, and once you are in, you are in until 6th grade. Amy was tested in early February, but we have no idea what they tested her on (they don't really ever tell you). We also didn't know how many openings there were, how many kids applied, etc. We decided that if she didn't get in, that was ok. You always want your kid to do their best and we actually have a very good elementary school just a few blocks away (Discovery is near the college). So using the local one would definitely be much more convenient! In the end, we just left it up to the Lord and figured he knows where she needs to be. And I guess it's at Discovery! (her good friend, Dallin, also got in! Yay Dallin!)

Of course she has no idea what all this means, she just wants to go to school. But we decided to celebrate anyway (since we were so excited) and I let her choose our dinner and snack tonight. She chose pizza ("Mom, get a vegetable one for Daddy and Will (its really supreme, yuck!) and a cheese one for you and me" and popsicles.

We are so proud of our little girl! We know she's going to LOVE school and do really well. Although I will really miss her at home! She's a big help!

Today I started my weekly doctors appointments. I can't believe the "time" is almost here! Most of the time Lee has been able to come home and watch the kids, but today he needed to stay at school. Which meant I had to take the kids with me. They were actually really good. When we were leaving our room, another couple was going into the one across the hall. I noticed they were staring at us, but figured they were just watching the kids. I had to clean Will up a little (from a chocolate bar he had just eaten) and the usual rustle of getting ready to leave anyplace. Anyway the guy yelled out to me, "Hey! You deserve a standing ovation for all that you just accomplished!" hahaha. It was a nice compliment, I thought!
