Saturday Frenzy

Saturday was quite a busy day around here! Well, for me anyway. It started with me going grocery/all the other stuff shopping around 8am. Now, for those who don't know, I hate grocery shopping. It's such a pain. So I had held off as long as I could. Which was probably the wrong thing to do since I needed to buy that much more. Anyway- I hit Panera first, I 'had' to get a motivation bear claw. haha. Then Home Depot- where I went for pine straw- they didn't have any! I was shocked! The lady even looked at me like I was crazy for asking. But I did see some discounted plants and I snagged a few of those. Actually- I got 9 plants for $12, to be exact. Quite a deal. Then I hit Walmart for a few things and Kroger for the rest of it. (Thankfully I was kid-free! I couldn't never done all that with the kids)

Oh the way home, I stopped by a yard sale down the street and snagged these 2 toys for a few bucks each. Amy has a tricycle (a big girl bike is on her Christmas list) but poor Will doesn't have anything to ride outside. They have been having a ball with them in the living room today!

When I got home, Will went down for a nap and Amy, Lee and I hit the front gardens. The entire bed was covered in crabgrass. UGH! I didn't get a picture, but it was everywhere. I hate that stuff. So we weeded the whole thing, which luckily didn't take that long. Then we planted the new plants. Basically everywhere you see dirt, there was crabgrass.

As for discounted plants... I got 6 of these (at $1 each)... they are called Hint of Gold. Their leaves are this bright green color and they get purple flowers on them.

I could only find one coneflower ($2)- I wish there had been more! I love them.

And I got 2 of these ($2 a piece), I'm not sure what they are called, but they have small reddish flowers along with red leaf tips.

I was pretty excited, both about my deals and to be 'gardening' again. The smell of dirt makes me smile! This is the perfect time to plant perennials, the roots have time to take effect without the hot sun and the cold ground. So hopefully in the spring everything will look great! Amy and I also planted some tulip bulbs. I'll also add some pansies or something in the coming weeks. Oh- and I'll get some pine straw, which will really help things. Our neighbors landscaper came over to get some of the dirt we dug up and he said he was also surprised Home Depot didn't have any. But he told me where to get it.

About that time it was around 1pm, Lee threw some frozen pizzas in the oven and I started feeling really bad. After I ate, he sent me to take a nap- which was well needed!

Oh- in case you didn't know- I'm pregnant again. It's not doctor confirmed, I couldn't get an appointment until the end of the month. But I know I am.... and I think I'm around 2 months. I'm nauseated like crazy and exhausted all the time. So doing all that I did today- I think I overdid it a little!

After naps, Amy and I went to get haircuts. Just a trim for us. I also gave Lee a haircut earlier in the day. Will was supposed to get one, but he was sleeping. Here we are showing off our new do's. Well, Amy is just being silly. No, Lee isn't growing out his beard, he hasn't shaved yet today.

After that (are you tired yet?? I am.) the kids got baths and then we headed to the church for a ward Italian Night dinner. It was actually a lot of fun, we have an awesome ward. And every time I'm with all of these wonderful people, I thank the Lord for sending us to the exact perfect spot for the Wade's!

We were supposed to bring something, and since I was teaching on Sunday, I never saw the sign-up sheet. That ended up being a good thing because I usually sign up for something crazy and then I have a day like today, with no time to bake, and then stress myself out over it. But today, I went the easy route. I took these:

And turned it into this:

Simple, easy, perfect! And they went like hot cakes. No left-overs to take home. Always a plus!

This is Amy sitting with Dallin (at the bottom) and Caleb. They are the Reece's- who we mostly hang out with. Linda (the mom) is above Caleb. She's awesome. I should have gotten a better picture of her. The husband, Joel, is a big BYU fan. They have a friendly rivalry with another family in our ward who are big Utah fans. And tonight is the BYU vs Utah game- so each side was in full support mode at the party.

Funny side story- Awhile ago, Linda was joking about Amy and Dallin. She sent me a funny text about them. When I laughed at it, Amy said, "What are you laughing at, Mom?" I just said, "Dallin's mom is so funny." She pressed me and I said, "oh she just said she wants you and Dallin to marry each other." Amy didn't really say anything. About an hour later, Amy ran up to me and said, "Mom! But why do I have to marry Dallin? He's just my friend!" I thought it was so funny that it took so long to connect it!

Anyways- back to the night.... I was once again reminded of how perfect our ward was when music played throughout dinner. And then that turned into a dance party. We didn't participate, but it was fun to watch!

So that was our day. We are exhausted!!

  1. Go figure, I'm off for a nap just reading. Uncle Steve and I are busy redoing the family room, and yesterday put a new coat of varnish on the trim. Then take a rest then think of what we'll do the next day. They say parents should get 50% of their kids energy, I want 10% of yours. Love always.

  2. You sure had a busy productive day!! I have lots of the cone flowers you like so much. I have a white and a pink variety and will try to send you some of them. I don't know how they will do but there are some new shoots coming out and maybe they will transplant. It will be worth the try. I like all the hair cuts. How come you couldn't fit anything else into your day? You must have had at least a five minute break some time during the day. Glad you are so happy in your new town. This sure sounds like the best move for all of you. Love to all, Gram.

  5. To Lynn, A break after just the trim, good grief - send Steve down here and we'll make a real man out of him.
To Mom, it doesn't sound too cool to send dirt in the mail.
To Mugs, so glad you are back to gardening again but take it easy so you can function the next day. I love the new toys and I want a bear claw!
