We drove around for a bit and then parked near a trail. Amy was disappointed when she didn't see a lake. She said, "Mom, isn't there any water where I can throw rocks??" I'll have to scope out some place for her next time. Anyway- we found the "Jackson Cave" trail. I didn't really think there was a cave, I figured it was just the name of something local. But nope, turns out there is a cave. There were signs posted saying "Cave is closed to the public due to White Nose disease." Apparently that it something very contagious in bats. Who knew? Anyhow, we started down the trail. It wasn't very long.
When we reached this bridge, Amy said, "Do you think my little brother will be ok on it?" I love how concerned she was. However, Will wasn't worried, as by that point he was already to the end of it. Except for this bridge, I carried him for most of the trail- I didn't trust him. I figured he was too young to understand the 'stay on the trail' rule.
After we turned a corner, to go towards the cave, Amy said, "Mom, it's kind of scary walking around in here." I had to laugh because I was thinking the exact same thing. I guess we just aren't people who find the woods relaxing! Lee has this life desire to hike the Appalachian Trail (yes, ideally from Georgia to Maine, but he'll settle for just hiking one state) And yes, if you know Lee and his "The Wade's Don't Camp" motto- this 'dream' of his is quite puzzling. I think I'm going to have to be much older. The woods freak me out.
This is 'Jackson Cave' and is as close as we went. Amy is smiling, but she's faking it.
We headed back towards the car and a nearby playground. The kids had fun running around, playing here.
Loves a slide
A twisty slide!!
She wasn't even scared
A rare picture of yours truly
He tried to climb this, but got stuck
I LOVE Will's face here. He obviously did not like Amy pushing him.
Amy kept declaring the 'itchy bugs' were bothering her. (I didn't feel anything itchy). And there was an old man nearby in a van that kind of creeped me out- so we headed home. I think the next time we go, I'll make sure Lee is with us.
When we got home, I needed a nap! I still don't know why I do these 'adventures,' they wear me out!! Well, that's a lie- I do them because I get stir crazy. But half-way through them, I wonder why I wasn't happy just sitting on my couch..... because that's straight where I go when we get home! haha.
Whose kid are you? I love the woods. Maybe it creeped you out because of the old man lurking about. I don't blame you for that one. To me thats the spirit talking to get out of Dodge. Cute pictures, especially of the "rare" one. She's a real beauty. Love you!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't see the old man until after the walk. I don't know, it's just all the noises, you never know if there's someone there or not... it's just creepy. Maybe it was just the area- the bat cave notice had me freaked to begin with. :)
ReplyDeleteGee, it looked like a nice sunny day, I'm with your mom. A walk in the woods is supposed to be relaxing. I would choose a place a little more inhabited though especially if you are squeamish. The kids looked like for the most part they had a good time. What on earth was the snack? I don't want to say what it looks like. I'll have to give you some lessons on just sitting and enjoying being bored. It's really an art form. Love always.
ReplyDeleteI love the woods for the most part, but my most favorite way of camping is renting a cabin :) I've done the tent thing, and it's OK for a day or two, but I like to bathe regularly.
ReplyDeleteI love the woods but I would never go into one alone with my kids as then I would be uneasy the whole time. Do me and you a favor and only go adventures like that when you have Lee with you. It looked like a really nice place though. I had the same feeling as Amy did.
ReplyDeleteI loved all the wonderful pictures of you and the kids. It would be fun to explore like that on such a nice day. Love to all of you. Gram
That looks like so much fun. I'm starting to get cabin fever...I've been stuck at home all week because we're having our house painted. So your Aunt Lynn asked what I was thinking...what was the snack? ;o)
