How to Build a Robot

A few weeks ago, Amy came to me with a plan. It was a plan to build a robot. And it was mine, not Lee's. (He has his own plan, and his is a zebra robot.) Because Amy is always drawing wonderful pictures... some don't always get saved. But every few days she'd ask if I still had my plan, so I made sure to save it.

I love her plan, and all the different steps to the completion of her robot!

Now, Amy isn't the best at going to bed. In fact, I'm convinced she'd never sleep if we didn't threaten her. Lately I've been trying a new tactic... that if she goes to bed, we'll do something fun in the morning. The first night it worked great, and we did some experiments (the same ones I've blogged about before, she wanted to do them again) The next day, Wednesday, we were sitting at the breakfast table and she said, "Mom! I have an idea. You go get your robot plan and we'll make it."

Now, I'll admit, my first thought was, "I really don't want to do this right now. I have so many other things to do....." But I stopped myself and agreed. You should've seen how happy she was!
(lesson learned)

I happened to have an empty laundry soap box that hadn't made it to the trash can yet. So I got that out. And then we brainstormed on the rest of him.

Making a 'final' plan

For his head and legs we stuffed paper lunch sacks with plastic bags.
For his arms, I cut an empty paper towel roll in half and I hot glued them to his sides.

Adding his face....
Tada!! He's complete!

Which. means. that. we. talked. like. a. robot. for. the. rest. of. the. day.

And here is Amy and her finished robot, along with her "plan"

She did a great job.
I'm so glad she loves to create stuff and has such a wild imagination!!

  2. Wow!!!! What a great job, and such a good plan and drawing. It's those days you see that gigantic smile, and know that whatever it was you thought you should do that day didn't really need getting done as much as that robot. What did you do with Will all this time? Love always.
