I called the doctor, knowing the original EEG was scheduled for tomorrow morning, but figuring he'd still like to know about it. After a few phone calls and more information from the nurse, she called me back saying they wanted to see him today and do his EEG as well.
So off we went. Dropped Amy at a friends, Lee canceled class (I'm sure they were happy!) and to the Doctor's office we went.
Will did great. He didn't even fuss too much when she was putting the 25 electrode things onto his head. Lee and I took turns keeping him distracted and laying with him. The nurse said, "Wow- you guys look like you are a great team!" We loved that. :)

So that's what we'll do. Poor little thing. What a morning he's had! He's sound asleep right now. But I'm really glad all this happened today. Because he'd already had a seizure they were able to look at that part of the brain more closely. And I really wasn't looking forward to the "keep him awake all night and get up early" day we had planned for tomorrow. Now we can all rest instead!
So our thankful list today includes:
- Modern medicine. Doctors that have studied hard in school and their knowledge is so useful now. The nurse said our Dr. is the "best at babies," that's comforting! Also medications. I'm not always the first to give medication, but in cases like this, I'm grateful it's around!
- Modern technology. Through the awesomeness of our cell phones, we've been able to video capture almost every seizure. So the doctor got to see, first hand, the seizures instead of relying on our descriptions.
- My teammate Lee. We've gotten pretty good at tag-teaming these episodes. He keeps time ( I have GOT to get batteries in my watch!!) and runs for the medication, I hold Will and monitor his progress. It was fun that the nurse noticed it too.
- Wonderful, caring family and friends. I was able to drop Amy off at the Stout's without any hesitation from Roberta. We've both gotten numerous texts and messages from everyone we know. Everyone loves our little guy!
- Insurance! Lee said to Will, "I'm sure glad you waited until I was employed before you started all of this!" We have really, really good insurance. And the medical savings plan is the greatest thing. Money is pulled from Lee's paycheck and put into an account. We can pay co-pays, prescriptions, etc out of it- it's been a blessing!!
Thanks everyone! Our little guy will be ok. :)

no one love sweet little Will like his granny my loving Lord will always watch over him
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear the good news! I know that has to have been so scary. We have a flexible spending account like that, too, and we love it! Although we also used to be able to buy OTC medicine (like allergy medicine that used to be prescription) with it also, but the new healthcare law changed it. Oh well! We still love it, and I'm thankful you have good insurance. It really helps with the stress!
ReplyDeleteAnother full day for you guys. I can only imagine how frightening it is. Glad they were able to do the tests and see your video, I'm sure it helped. I remember when you had to go, we were always so surprised you slept and woke when they wanted you to. You always think that will never happen and then it does. I know it's prayer because the docs need that to happen. Hopefully the meds will work and things will settle down. Prayers are still coming. Love always.
ReplyDeleteGood news on getting Will into the doctor today. I'm hoping that the low dose is all that he needs and he'll continue to be the wonderful boy he is! Will has fabulous parents!
ReplyDeleteHow is Will today? I sure hope the little guy feels much better. We are all praying for a positive outlook and we all know he is in great hands. As the nurse said--you are a great pair of parents. I am so thankful that your insurance has kicked in and have such good people around to halp you out in a pinch. If you need me to come I will be glad to come down. Love to you all, Gram
