Object in the picture is closer than it appears.....
So Amy notices what she called a hawk in the tree (the one pictured). She gets all excited and calls me to look at it. Well, I notice the huge dead possum on the road. All I could think of was "ugh!" and I knew I wanted it gone before trick or treating, but what the heck do you do with it?? (Not that I'd be brave enough to move it with a shovel.... but if I was....) Then I notice the "hawk." Only, it isn't a hawk- its a vulture!! It kept trying to fly down and pick at the possum carcass, but the street was really busy, so it wasn't having much luck. Finally, it got down, grabbed the possum with it's beak and dragged it over to the side. I thought it was just going to eat it over there, but no... we looked and the possum is gone. No signs anywhere. So.... did the vulture pick it up and take it somewhere? Although the possum was pretty huge, and I have no idea how much a vulture can carry. Or did it it eat it all?? We never saw other birds- so where are the bones?? Anyhow- it's a mystery. Amy said it took the meat home to it's babies- ah- Amy is so sweet. I, on the other hand, was creeped out by a dead possum and a vulture, in front of our house, on Halloween. Oh well- just made the day more exciting!
| Lee loves this picture. I think he looks weird. |
This killed me.... so they want him to be sleep deprived for the test. The nurse said we put him to bed at midnight and wake him up at 4am, and then keep him up until his appointment. THEN she kept trying to give me a 1:30pm appointment. I said, "How in the world do you keep a 16 month old awake until 1:30pm??" And that after he's been awake until midnight??? She was annoyed at me, but really..... has she ever been around a 16 month old?? Anyways, we finally found a date with a 7:30am appointment, and that will be better. Although- if we all have 4 hours of sleep- that day could be interesting in our house. His appointment is Nov 17.
I guess Will was hungry because he pulled the empty spinach container from the trash and ate the remaining leaf.
That evening we had the Stout's over for pizza and trick or treating. Our neighborhood turned out to be quite good for it too. Our neighborhood is huge, but we only did one loop and the kids got plenty of loot.
Our entourage, the Stout's dressed up like pirates. We didn't dress up at all- we were slackers. Didn't even put Will in his costume! Oh well. I was freezing! It was much different than trick or treating in t-shirts and Mississippi weather!
So that was our Halloween, hope your's was fun too!
Halloween was fine! I had about 30 kids come to the door trick or treating and they all looked so cute. Mostly about 10 down to 3 years old and only a few teenagers came a little later. It was all quiet around here after eight o'clock so I wasn't bothered by a lot of crazy kids. All had some great costumes and seemed to be having fun. Holley was upset every time the doorbell rang. She was more problem then the doorbell.
ReplyDeleteGlad you all had a good day and also glad the carcus was taken--nice vulture. Love to you all, Gram

ReplyDeleteDidn't know you moved to a wildlife area. Hard to believe the vulture could carry a possum but what else? Glad the kids had a good time. We only had 14 kids come. A far cry from the 125 we had the first year we lived here. Almost not worth being home. I'll be thinking of you on the 17th that woman must have been crazy wanting to make such a late appointment. It falls into the category "What was she thinking" Good luck. Love always.
ReplyDeleteYou are better than us...we made it as far as the mailbox. Of course that was because Brecken wasn't too thrilled about wearing her costume. So we just passed out candy. I think she was more entertained with all the kids coming to our house. And don't worry Will will be just fine...hugs to the kiddos.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Will's appointment. I hope it comes back normal too! I'm glad you had a fun halloween!
ReplyDeleteDad answered the door and I paid bills. Which job do you think was scarier?
