Yard Sale Time

We decided to have our yard sale this weekend. I think we are just stir-crazy and getting rid of stuff makes the move seem more real.

The yard sale was a success. Lee said we got rid of everything he wanted to- bookshelves, the old grill (given to us by someone), old dressers, etc. We did have the baby stroller for sale- this one is a part of a set. It matches Will's carseat and the seat fits into the stroller. I haven't used the stroller in sometime because it's big, bulky and takes up the entire Civic trunk. So I thought I'd be ok to get rid of it..... but I really didn't want to. Towards the end of the morning I saw someone anxiously spying it.... taking pics with his camera phone and talking to someone about it. I told Lee, "I don't want to sell it!" Then proceeded to go over reasons why we still needed it. To my surprise, Lee said, "then don't sell it." The guy walked away, so I figured he decided against it, so I grabbed it and put it back in the house. I just felt sick about selling it! Isn't that so weird??!! I'm really trying to get over my attachment to "things" but I still have a baby and I love that stroller. I was already getting rid of several other baby things and that just made me sad. (as of currently, we are done with children. Things could change, but they probably won't. We sure are blessed with the two wonderful ones we have though!) A few minutes later I noticed the guy walking up and down the street, pacing. Strange, I thought. Then he walked back up and saw the stroller was gone and left. Lee said he looked sad, but oh well. I just couldn't do it! I'm so weird, I know.

But I had to blog about this funny lady. We see her walking around all the time. She's hard to miss because she walks her dog, in a stroller. So she walks up, gives us a broom she found on the ground and tells us we can sell it. Seeing the dog in the stroller, Amy runs up to pet it. The lady says, "Oh don't pet her. Not until I talk to her first." Then really loudly says, "Sadie! You let that little girl pet you, ok?!" The dog just looks at the woman and then the lady says, "It's ok to pet her now." And Amy pets her and the lady tells us, "I have to be careful with her. She's 8 years old and a lot to take care of."

Now.... yes- Amy should never run up to a dog and pet it. That's something we are working on... she LOVES animals. But the yelling at the dog for permission to pet was hilarious, as was the dog in the stroller, as was the 8 yrs old thing. I mean, 8 years old isn't that old for a dog. Not a mutt type like her's. That dog will live to at least 15.

Anyhow- she spies 2 of our bookshelves, asks if we can hold them for her and she'll come back and get them. No problem.

Then she shows up..... (that's my beloved stroller in the background.)

with a hand truck! We were like, "What?" Lee asked where she lived and she said, "Down around the corner." (about 2 blocks or so- we think). She left, came back with the hand truck again. We had 2 bookcases (in bad condition) that we were giving away for free, so Lee convinced her to take those too. She agreed and he said, "How about I drive them over to your house for you?" "No, No" she says. "It's no problem, I can do it."

I LOVE Lee's face here. He's like "Let me help you, you crazy lady."
So off she goes with bookcase number two.....

And on home she went. We were dying laughing! Bookcase #3 wasn't a big deal, but she returned for #4 without the hand truck. Which we thought was strange.

But she loaded it up.....

(She was talking to use about price gouging here)
....on her shoulders and was off on her merry way!!

Thank goodness for cell phone camera's, right? Oh dear, we were laughing so hard. So Grandma, I want to know.... I know you bought your dining room set from a yard sale that you and Connie found while walking around the neighborhood... is this how you touted it home?????!!!!!????

Man oh man.

Amy got to enjoy some time on her bike. There's really no where to ride, so she is still learning. But I love the leaf handle bar accessories that she added!

Since we got up at 5 am to start all the yard sale prep... we were all exhausted (except Amy who doesn't believe in sleep). The house is a WRECK from pulling everything out. We figured we'd just deal with it later and all take naps. I laid down on Amy's bed and not 5 mins later I heard a knock at our door. It was our landlords! Seriously?! Right NOW?? We haven't seen them since we moved in, 2 years ago, and they pick today to come by?? I can't even remember how many times I apologized. Just her view alone was a nightmare. She didn't seem affected by it. They were just coming to tell us they were putting the house up for sale, when we leave, and they wanted to put a sign in the yard. She was really sweet and said how sad they were about us leaving and how we are the best renters they've ever had. That was nice.

Anyhow- that was our day. Today I'm grateful for blogs and camera phones (and their ability to sneakily take photos of people without them knowing)

  1. What a hoot. Luckily gram didn't bring her dining room home that way, but I bet she thought of it.

  2. NO! I had my dining room set delivered by truck--you smarties! That really was funny the lady didn't take Lee up on the offer to bring the shelves to her house in the car. Oh well, she looked pleased with her loot--all are happy. I'm sure you are glad to have those things out of your way. I think you will be glad you saved the stroller after you get moved as you will probably use it a lot then if only for a walk--hope you will have sidewalks when you move.
    Lots of love, Gram
