Recent Happenings

We've had a few fun moments this week. Well, everyday with these 2 kids is fun- its hard to remember to capture everything!

I got "Happy Baby" out for Amy to play with. Happy Baby is a special doll. She was my mom's when she was little, and then mine as well. She's a wonderful family heirloom! For all of you haters who will remark how ugly she is, how she's balding, missing eyelashes, missing fingers, etc... I'll have you know that Amy thinks she's beautiful. She told Savannah that Happy Baby was beautiful and really special because she was so old. Amy put her in the cupcake dress that matches one of her new dresses.

Amy was a dog today and asked me to make her a doghouse. I was just going to build a fort but she got a knife and said, "No mom- a doghouse with a knife." This is what I came up with. She needed a bigger box, but I wasn't willing to sacrifice one of our moving ones that we are stockpiling.

About 2 years ago I swiped the cutest school desk from the neighbors. I hopped the fence, got a nasty cut (that has left a scar) and everything to rescue this little thing. Well, I sanded it, but never did anything else.

This week I finally got some stain and finished it up. I think it turned out ok. I wanted it dark to hide some of the imperfections that couldn't be sanded out. Plus, I love dark wood.

Last night I was able to go to an amazing food storage class that was held in Gulfport. Me and 3 other ladies from church drove down there. We were so glad we did. A lady named Wendy DeWitt was the guest speaker and I really love her food storage method. You can click here to view a video of her presentation that was given a few years ago. It's basically the same thing now. There are 9 parts on You Tube and if you are at all interested in food storage- it's well worth the less than 60 minutes of your time to watch them.

So now I'm very motivated to gather our year supply. But first I needed to get together a 72 hour kit for each of us. Can you believe I didn't even have that??!! Geeesh! But for less than $45, I made kits for all of us, all packaged into tin cans. I have to add the water and a few other things, but it feels so nice knowing that I at least have that.

Amy was a great helper. She counted out all of the items for me. If you need an idea of where to start- I basically followed the template on this site. I had to substitute a few things but this is where the idea started.

Lee and Will downing their green smoothies. I've been a little slack this week and haven't made them very often. What!!!??!! I know!! We were definitely all craving them!

And finally.... a few weeks ago when I played in the mud with Amy... my white socks got completely dirty. And stained that way. Grandma happened to make a comment that she could probably get them white again. So a challenge was issued....

But NOW the Queen of laundry herself is saying that because "I washed and dried them, they might not become white again." Hmmmm..... sounds like an excuse to me. hahaha!

That's it for right now. Our weather is just perfect and we tend to spend a lot of time outdoors. Amy has needed a bath every night. The one night I forgot to give her one, she was itching and scratching in her dirt all night. That was a fun night. (sigh). But I'm glad she's having fun outside. We are definitely going to miss Mississippi's early spring! But we are glad we'll be leaving before the dead of summer hits!

Oh- and Will is finally getting his first tooth. Everyone else his age has at least 2 already. His first is just starting to pop through. But his lack of teeth definitely doesn't slow down his eating!

Yeah a new tooth! Anna is making fun of Happy Baby. She says it's Scary baby instead. I am glad Amy appreciates the finer things that age brings. Wasn't that the cutest cupcake dress? The school desk looks so cute. I am glad you redid it. You will enjoy it for a long time and it will help you to remember your wonderful years in Mississippi Haha!

I too think Happy Baby is beautiful. She shows all the love from all the years. I still have mine, although she is I have to say in a little "less loved" condition. She hasn't had the extra generations of love. Love the desk, although not my favorite for lefties. I always hated them in school. Looks like you've had a busy week. So sorry you've needed to take baths each day because of playing outside. At least if you were here (it's 20 this morning) you wouldn't be as dirty. Love always.

Happy Baby sure has outlasted her time. I remember how you girls would play with them. I too think she is a Happy Baby she has always had a lot of love. I never would have guessed Will didn't have any teeth. I figured he was chewing long ago. Good for him. Your desk turned out great. I bet the kids will have a great time with it. It looks like you had a lot of work to get it finished. Good for you. Glad all is well in Mississippi! We have the sunshine tody too but our temperature is only up to 41 and it's six o'clock already. I sure do love the daylight saving time. Love to you all, Gram
