Mississippi Mud Pies

I just realized that I think that is a dessert. Mom/Dad- didn't the Golden Girls used to make something called Mississippi Mud Pie?? Ummm... that was good.

Anyhow- given that the weather is still beautiful and the windows are still down- I was able to send the kids out to play all day today. Actually- it started with Amy, Will and I outside. Then Savannah came and the little girls played. Only to be interrupted by Amy having to go to speech therapy (I had to clean them up quite a bit!) Then when we got back from therapy, the girls went back out and all dirty again. (WHY didn't  I think to have them put on their previous dirty clothes???!!!!??)

They had a good time though. But seriously- who doesn't have a good time playing in the mud?? I almost joined them, but decided I should cook dinner instead.

Luckily I had maple syrup on stand-by. I'll have to remember to only make it the day of next time!

Mikey would never have gotten his hands dirty making mud pies so I missed that experience. What is the advantage to making syrup. You can get wonderful 100% natural so easily? What do you make it out of other than tree sap? Love always.

Aunt Lynn- the advantage of making your own syrup is definitely NOT health! It's just thrifty. It's a cup of brown sugar, a cup of white and a cup of water. Plus, if you make it yourself there's no high fructose corn syrup. I love real maple syrup, but it's a)expensive and b) I'm still working on getting Lee and Amy to like it. :)

I used to make my syrup years and years ago and I added Maple Flavoring to it and it was very good. I only used white sugar and water I think. Can't remember as it was at least 60 years ago. I'll try to look up my recipe. That could take a long enough time to grow your own maple tree and draw the sap yourself. Love, Gram

But they'll drink GREEN smoothies? They are a little mixed up. Does your concoction taste anything like real syrup? If you heat it up again won't it remelt? Just wondering. Love always.

Nothing like hammering your syrup out of the container for pancakes. Maybe if you freeze the pancakes it would all be ok.

GREEN smoothies are really good! You obviously haven't tried them yet. :) It tastes a lot like regular syrup. I add some vanilla and butter- so that helps. Amy never noticed a difference. I tried reheating it, but once it cooled it crystallized again. Strange. I'm still trying to figure that one out. :)
