Another Trip to the Emergency Room

(sigh) So little Will is allowing us to get to know our Emergency Room! The poor thing.

Yesterday was weird, he was fine all day..... ate well, played outside (it was really warm), nothing out of the ordinary. I put him down for his afternoon nap and about 30 minutes later he woke up screaming his head off. I gave him about 15 minutes, thinking he was just having a bad dream or something. But the 'hurt cry' was persistent and I decided to go check on him. He had tears streaming down his face and he was curled into a 'c' shape. And wouldn't get out of it. I picked him up, more screams, put him over my shoulder, more screams and it seemed that every time I moved him it just produced more screams and pain. I finally got him back to sleep and he woke again, an hour later, the same way.

By this time Lee was home. He watched him for awhile and was concerned as well. Will would finally get "comfortable" over my shoulder and would talk and play, but he wouldn't move. It was like he was paralyzed. And if he did move, he screamed in pain. So we decided to take him in.

I held him in the car, for a minute he rallied in the parking lot and we thought we could go back home, but once he moved, he screamed again. So in we went. He stayed on my shoulder for a long time.

Four hours, an x-ray, blood work and a stool sample later, nothing was found. And by that time he was completely normal. Even the doctor when examining him could tell he was in pain, but we just couldn't figure out where the pain was coming from. So, who knows!

This funny picture was taken when he was feeling better. I started singing Christmas songs and he and Amy were dancing around. Amy had worn this hat and was putting it on him in silly ways. You can see a huge bandage on his right arm... that's an IV in case they needed it. He's also missing a sock because his got all wet.

He woke a little 'stiff' again this morning but I gave him some ibuprofen and he has seemed fine ever since. We thought it could possibly be meningitis, and I guess that's still possible, but he didn't have a fever or vomiting, which is common with that disease. Plus, nothing showed in his blood work. If it was an infection of any kind, his blood cell count would have caught that. So anyway, it's a mystery. We are continuing to observe him and take video (shamefully we didn't think of that last night) so hopefully if it happens again, we can get some answers.

I sure am glad that we only live 6 miles from the hospital!! Oh- and I have to give huge credit to Amy who was a real trooper. We took him right before dinner, so she was hungry (luckily I grabbed a few things) and then got bored. She was really, really good though- finding things to play with and keeping herself entertained. She really deserves the award of the night!

** Will had another seizure tonight. It was about 2 1/2 mins long. (sigh) This is the first since he's been taking the medicine.

  3. Sorry to hear about Will's rough day! Thank goodness for good doctors. I have had a few experiences like that. It is awful when you can't figure out what is bothering your baby!
