Let's Go Fly a Kite

Having been through a few hurricanes in my life, I really feel for all of those being affected by Irene. However, Irene is causing great weather for us. Not a cloud in the sky and there's a nice breeze. So we decided to take the kids and fly their kites.

We went up to the open school yard and had a great time! I didn't take my camera, but Lee took a few pictures with his camera phone.

That's me flying Aunt Donna's kite (the one she gave Amy at the reunion). It was determined that this was the best kite. Great pick Aunt Donna!! We got it up pretty high. Amy mainly flew this one, but at this point she was kind of bored and just running around in the grass.

We had another kite, different design, and Spiderman. It flew for a little while, then didn't do so well. Will loved this one and when it died, he just carried it around the field.

Kite flying was a lot of fun. And it was so fun to watch the kids get so excited when the kites were high in the air. We'll have to scope out another "Aunt Donna" style kite and go more often! Now that fall is coming (we all hope!), and we live next to such a great, open area, I'm sure there will be many more opportunities!

  1. Flying a kite has been fun forever! We used to make our own when I was a kid. Believe it or not they flew too!! We had hours and hours of fun doing that plus the time it took to make the kite. Great outdoor activity and you are all so lucky to have so much outdoor time. Love to you all,
    Gram.

  2. We too had pretty good weather thanks to Irene. Cloudy and windy, but cool. High yesterday only 67. Today sunny and high 73. We flew kites a lot too. I'm not sure we ever made them though I guess that was for the older folks. By the way, in case Anna and your mom still wonder where my comments are, gram and I can't seem to make them only to you and Lauren. Can't figure out why. But we are watching. Love always.
