Staying Busy in October

Mom and Dad came for a few days to help work on our upstairs. Well, let me rephrase, Dad did a lot of the work and mom and I ran to the store when needed. Tyler was more than excited to help when he could, he can't wait to be a "fixer man" like Papa.

Dad gave mom and I a box with a list of things to buy. We were laughing about carrying a big box around when Amy said, "Why don't you just take a picture instead?" This new generation... so techy!

Meme got an archery lesson from Amy. And then Amy was mad because Meme shot so well!

Dad fixed a broken plug for us. Mom and I grew concerned when we saw a burst of light and heard a "poof" as he was fixing it. Apparently his hand was in his pocket so he was safe. haha. I had to laugh about that.

I harvested 5 more loofah. I think I have 2 or 3 more left on the vine. It's certainly been a fun project! And I have lots of seeds to try again next year!

We got a fun package from a friend I met online.

I bought a ton of mums... all on clearance. I love it when I find deals like that.

I'm over the Activity Day girls at church (ages 7-11) They are fun and crazy girls. This particular night I had to bring the boys with me. The girl next to Tyler with the flower in her hair (Laney Sullivan) declared she was going to marry Tyler one day. She had us cracking up. But she was dead serious. So we'll see!

I built a compost bin area. To do so, I thought I'd go ahead and have the store cut the wood to save me time. I picked 8 foot boards and asked the man to cut them exactly in half. Well..... let's just say he was a theater major. (sigh)

Getting them out to the car was a hassle as well as because of their size they kept falling off the cart. I would go a few feet then pickup boards, then go another few feet, pick up more boards, etc. I must have looked ridiculous.

I had the boards cut to save me time, but it took more time because the cuts weren't right. Our saw is upstairs right now because of the remodel so I had to haul them upstairs little by little. Finally everything was cut and then assembly was easy. I'm glad to have this project off the list.

A few days later I was working in the garden and some weed attacked me. All those woody things are thorns! It was like I had rolled around with a porcupine.

I have a few more Nancy Drew books to get through and I laughed when I saw this one. I hadn't remembered that Aunt Lynn had given me any of my books, but I guess she did!

The kids have been having a blast on my piles of mulch. It's like having a cardboard box- give the kids a random object and they will create their own fun for hours and hours.

Amy and Tyler hung a white flag because Will surrendered. Or something like that.

The kids had a movie night with dad to watch Spiderman.

While they did that I had a girls night to Haunted Murfreesboro. You walk around the town and listen to a storyteller (we happen to know this one from church) tell all sorts of "spooky" stories from the town. It was a lot of fun and the perfect night to be out.

She said that when we went to bed to out our shoes under the bed with one facing out and one facing in so the spooks won't know if you are coming or going.  I took a picture to jokingly send it to the group.

The boys have been so funny lately. Playing and laughing nonstop. This particular morning they were doing sumo wrestling with pillows stuffed in their shirts.

Tyler lined all his figures on the fireplace and had them hanging. We thought it was so funny.

And that's about it thus far. We still have more fun left for the month, but it's going quickly. Once Halloween is over it seems like Christmas is just around the corner.
