Insulation and a Few Other Things

One thing we knew about prior to moving in was the house did not have any insulation under it. Lee was on spring break this week and decided to tackle that project. I have to give him a ton of credit because there was no way I was going under the house. The crawl space is maybe 2-3ish feet. Plus the fact that it's dark and there are spiders?? Heck no. When we looked at the inspection report, that was my requirement- that I was not going under. Thankfully dark, creepy spaces do not freak Lee out like they do myself. Hey, we all have our things, right?

That thought was further settled when Lee came out and said, "There is a really big, shiny spider under there. The thing is huge!"

Me: "That is probably a black widow. Look for the red hourglass on its back."

Lee then goes back under the house, proceeds to take this picture, DOES notice the red markings and that further solidified the fact that I was never going under there. My friend said, "Well, it's a lovely house, I'm so sorry you have to burn it down." hahaha.  (The pipe is 1/2 inch and the camera was right near it. So it really is THAT big.) Many people have said it's a female. So basically I will be emptying 14 cans of spider killer to make sure that thing's offspring do not inhabit our crawl space.

Luckily Lee is not afraid of spiders. Like I said, I would have been outta there!

He is insulating the pipes and the floors so we had to make another trip to Lowe's. We'll have to make many more, I'm sure. There is something awesome about going to the hardware store. It makes me feel like a real homeowner.

Lee got about 40% of it done and was exhausted. Because of the tight space he said he's either in plank position or sit-up/crunch position the entire time. He's a trooper, I tell ya!

I was the self-designated insulation cutter. I would cut the pieces and then feed them to him via the opening.

I had to stay nearby in case he yelled for something so while he was under there, I dug up a garden spot where I'll put in a shade garden. It's still a bit early to plant anything but there's nothing wrong with stirring up the ground, adding a little organic matter and letting all the good stuff simmer around for a bit longer.

Actually, that being said, my friend called and said she's taking a bunch of her gardens back to grass. She's just too busy to mess with them anymore. She offered whatever plants I wanted if I'd come dig them up. I took the kids there after school and we got busy. When we got home I stuck them all in our front garden, just to get them in the ground. I'll move them around later on.

Mine and Amy's hands on the way home from digging. (My friend had left so we couldn't wash our hands.) Georgia has red clay. Tennessee just has clay.

Tyler drew this picture of himself and his teacher Mrs. Mann. If you look carefully, you can see he drew the baby in her belly. Soooo cute!

My inside project was to hang the measuring cups and spoons to the inside of a cabinet. I don't have very many drawers so after much thought and deliberation, this was the way to go. I used removable command hooks so if I hate it I can change it later.

And because I haven't seemed to be able to get a picture of Will lately, here's one of him and Tyler together. His fixation has been on baseball lately. This was right after they had come in from playing (hence the hats.)

And that is it for today's rendition of "What the Wade's are doing." Good times, always good times.
