March- Amy's Big Haircut

March was a busy one for us.... first off there was Amy's hair....

Amy's high school does a big fundraiser every year for St. Baldricks. The organization helps kids with cancer and (long-enough) donated hair gets made into wigs. Kids and teachers cut their hair in front of a large assembly and it's a fun/kind of a big deal. She learned about it her freshman year and decided she wanted to do it the next year. She grew her hair out all year just for this event. Here she is the morning of- before school.....

During school we got a few pics....

Her friend Bailey was doing it as well.

And then it was done! We got several videos from friends and it was definitely exciting waiting on the big reveal.

(This is our friend Aiden Rivas. His dad is Amy's math teacher. His mom is one of my besties. And they go to church with us.)

I was so proud of her. I wouldn't have been brave enough to do that in high school- especially in front of the entire student body. But she didn't care. I love her tenacity and bravery.

After school we took her to a local place to get the cut evened out. Then after a few few weeks we went to a friends who is a stylist to get it shaped. Well.... that was not good. She ended giving Amy a very layered, very short cut and needless to say- there were many, many tears shed by her and myself! I felt so badly for her! She wore it in a ponytail for about a month to hide it from everyone. I told her that every woman has a bad haircut at least once in their life and she was lucky to get it over with early. We also noted that there weren't any major photos that had to be taken from "the cut" until next fall- so she also dodged a bullet there. We were trying to find any silver lining that we could!

Luckily her hair grows pretty fast. She's currently growing it out so we can eventually get it cut all one length again. We didn't take a photo evidence of 'the cut' though. We don't need to relive that trauma.
