It's Ours!

This cutie of a house is ours! And we are pretty excited about it!

This is us right out of closing with our realtor and friend Mike Stuteville. He was great to work with. He jokingly called us his House Hunters family (like the tv show.) We looked at 3 houses. We chose #3 and everything closed perfectly. He said in 10 years that's never happened. This house was definitely meant to be ours!

Mike's wife, Lila (also a friend of ours) recently took up painting as a hobby. I happen to already have several of her pieces. After closing he gave us this- she painted our house!!!! Isn't that the sweetest and best gift ever???? We were so touched that she did that for us.

From closing we went out for a celebratory lunch at Panera. Tyler was home sick (recovering from a cold) and Amy's teacher was saying Amy kept complaining about a headache. We decided to just go get the other 2 from school and move a few things into the house.

We made 2 trips, once consisting of a queen mattress that we had to fold like a taco-ish. Somehow we got it in though. (Don't worry Aunt Donna- Tyler did NOT ride like this to the house!) We brought along pillows and a few air mattresses to have our first camp-out at the house.

Someone had given us a confetti gun to shoot off when we closed. The sound was really loud and the confetti really minimal. I'm sure our neighbors were wondering what kind of people had moved in.

The kids set up a make-shift shop in their bedrooms.

We brought over one of our tv's, the DVD player and watched our first movie in the new house (The Goonies. We always forget there is a lot of cursing! We probably shouldn't let them watch it.)

The funny thing is we forgot blankets. I did, however, bring 5 bath towels, so guess what we used for our blankets that night!? Yep, the towels. Most everyone had a sheet or a light blanket, but it is winter. So I turned the heat up a tad and we curled as best as we could under the towels. It was pretty funny. Everyone slept well except myself. I never sleep well my first night someplace new. But the house was quiet and cozy.

Lee woke up feeling like he had the flu. I think all the stress finally got to him. We headed back to our current house pretty early to let him rest. He slept all day. It was actually a good day to be sick as it poured and poured rain all day. We really couldn't have moved anything if we had wanted to.

So now we are onto moving week. Mom and Dad come near the end of the week to help us with stuff. I'll be working on all the small things I can all week. We hope to be in by the weekend. Stay tuned for many updates! I have a million and one projects floating around my brain!

Here are some more pictures of the inside of the house.

The living room has a nice fireplace.

I will eventually redo the kitchen, or at least paint the cabinets. I'm not a fan of the light maple. And the purple/gray counter tops? Those are new. (They look more purple in person.) I cannot for the life of me figure out why someone would chose that color, but I guess it isn't the worst in the world. The light above the sink makes me laugh. It looks like a microphone and is pretty useless. Yeah, that's gotta go as well. I do not have a pantry, which is kind of a bummer. Our current house is the only one I've ever had, so while I'm not new to the concept, it has been pretty nice to have!

The backyard is fenced and a good size. I'm already plotting gardens. It came with a swing-set which the kids have declared to be the best thing about the house. There is a lot of yard outside of the fence that is also ours. Which is nice. I love not being 'on top' of our neighbors!

The part that really sold me on the house is the upstairs. The bottom level is 3 bedroom, 2 bath. Which is perfect for us. However, we also really need a guest room and a play area space. The unfinished upstairs will give us that.

In fact, it's already has a guest room and a bath room studded. The plumbing and electric is already run. The shower is even bought and in a box. All it really needs is an a/c unit, insulation, sheet rock and carpet. It'll be a fun project in the near future to work on!

This will be the guest room area

This will be a tv room type area.

This part will hold my sewing machine and whatever else.

So that's a basic walk through of the house. We are excited and just want to get into it. It will definitely provide us with many years of projects and that's exactly what we were looking for!
