Why Teachers Are Needed

This morning I was reviewing the weekly snap (sight) and family words with Amy. She has a spelling test every Friday (it's not really graded, but used more for practice).  They use the words a lot in the classroom, so the kids are very familiar with them.

So this is why I've decided that kids need a teacher, that is not their parent. Aside from doing a job that I'd never have the patience for, they can get your child to do things you can't! In all the years I've been working with Amy, she would never write in lower case letters. I tried and tried but she'd always revert back to upper case. Well, one week in Kindergarten and she writes in lower case. I was so shocked. I asked her about it and she said, "That's what my teacher wants us to do." As simple as that.

While she wrote her words, Will drew some letters. I, H, O and later on L and T. The letter 'I' is his favorite. He writes it everywhere. He also had a popsicle stick that he carries around and demands to sleep with. It's "his I." If he doesn't have it, he cries, "My 'I', I want my 'I'!" I told you, he's a little strange.

I loved that she then drew a cat and labeled it.

 Thank heaven for teachers.

  1. I agree. I don't know how parents home school. I think a parent needs to be a parent and a teacher a teacher. Education should be learned from multiple people and circumstances. I do love how Will is so interested. He'll know all her words very soon as well. Love always.

  2. It looks like Amy is enjoying her school. I get a kick out of Will standing right next to Amy and doing the letters too. As Lynn said he'll know all the words too.
Glad Amy is liking school but I didn't think she would not like it,
Glad to see they play together.
All is quiet here as Rick and Sandy and the boys left yesterday morning. I was tired after they left but a day of quiet and I feel great again. In fact I slept until 7:30 this morning. It felt good!!
We had a nice visit while they were here and Sandy's two grandsons are really nice boys. They are 8 and 10 and play really well with eachother. I think they all enjoyed themselves too. Hope so.
Lots of love to you all, Gram
