From Easter Until the End of School

From Easter until the end of school is always a mad dash. State-wide testing is over so the teachers pile in all the "fun" activities. Plus, it's finally warm out. So for the month we stay pretty busy! I'm just going to do one long post so I can get caught up before summer really starts.

Back at the end of April I got to go to GA for the weekend. Mom and Dad sold a house and since I'm the trustee on their account, I had to sign for it. It's a nice excuse to spend some time with them, sans kids! I get completely spoiled so I really should do it more often :) After the house signing we ate yummy dinners, went shoe shopping, listened to music in Marietta Square, slept in, toured mom's straw bale garden and had a wonderful time. We didn't want it to end!

Will sported a bowtie one Sunday, he looked so handsome. Tyler likes to be a ham. Can you tell?

Amy is our night owl. She would stay up all night if we let her. Many nights we have to yell "Turn off the light!" This one particular night, we kept saying it and it never came off. Turns out she was sound asleep just like this. haha.

The boys ended their first soccer season. I think they liked it. A lot of the games were rained out because April is our wet month here but they got to play enough to enjoy it.

You can see that Will wasn't quite willing to take a picture this day!

Lee was an assistant coach for Will's team.

Amy decided she wanted her hair cut for the summer. It was beautiful but it was so long it was getting hard to manage. I cut nearly a foot off!

I helped throw a surprise party for my friend Talana's 50th birthday. She was definitely surprised!

If you look in the very back of the photo above (I zoomed in the photo below) you can see Lee and I in the back. Apparently we like to make sure we are noticed.

The morning after the party my hiking group set out to attempt the Virgin Falls Trail. It's only 4.3 miles one way... making 8.6 round trip, but we also took some side trails. We hiked a little over 9 miles total. That doesn't seem like much but this entire trail seemed to be uphill. I don't think I've ever climbed so much. We were all quite tired at the end. We decided to start making videos of our hikes. It's fun to share and relive it but also fun to show family members who ask about it. If you'd like to see them (there's only one right now) you can search Rambling Wanderers on Youtube. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBkPKPIy4Jg

Tennessee is absolutely gorgeous. I'm always in such awe of the places we get to go.

If you look to the lower right, you can see a tiny person, that's me. That gives you an idea of how tall the waterfall is!

Lee and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary. Hard to believe it's been 15 years! He bought me 15 gerbera daisies.... and then took off for London. haha. He took another group of students across the pond (they left on our anniversary.)

During the school year I get up extra early to hit the gym. On the way home I catch the most gorgeous sunrises.

Our first harvest from our garden! Snap peas that were grown in the straw bale garden.

I went on a field trip to the zoo with Will's class.

His teacher, Mrs. Keel.... oh wow, she's just the best.

The activity day girls came to our house one night. My counter part, Amanda, had them make their own butter. It's just heavy cream in a mason jar and they had to shake it until the butter formed. It was really fun. She then had bread for them to put it on. It was a winning idea!

I went to Amy's awards ceremony- she made Honor roll each semester this year. She's done a great job.

Will and Tyler with the neighbor boy, Tristan. I think they are ready for summer!

We grew and harvested Kohlrabi. I'd never heard of it but thought it'd be fun to try. It's actually really good, the kids loved it. I guess it's used in a lot of Asian dishes. But we sliced and ate it raw.

We also harvested our first broccoli! That's was pretty fun too. It was delicious.

That's about all that is ready in the garden at the moment.

One Saturday I made the kids clean out their closets. Amy wasn't too happy with me.

Tyler was asked to give a talk in Primary at church. He was SO excited. He came right home (after being asked) and started writing it. It was on "The Temple is a Sacred Place." He did a great job.

The last report for the school year! Will did it on Shield Volcanoes.

I added some wood under our tree house to create a lettuce patch. The shade should work perfectly for the summer. I had to add chicken wire all around it because we have several rabbits who love our yard. It looks like a small chicken coop... but it's not.... at least not yet. ;)

My new shirt cracks me up.

Our neighbor is growing onions and the kids wanted to try them straight from the garden. I couldn't believe it! Then we sauteed the leftovers with the leftover kohlrabi leaves. They gobbled it up like they'd never eaten before!

(Tyler isn't an onion fan... but even he took a bite of the raw onion.)

Tyler came out one morning with a mohawk he'd created himself. He loved it. haha

The boys had a Wet n Wild day at school. I volunteered all day and yes, it was ridiculously hot. I kept asking the kids to splash me with water. I was soaked from head to toe at least 3 times and dried off completely each time.

The boys had Crazy Hair Day one day at school.

Lee brought Amy home her beloved London Ketchup. Europe doesn't allow a lot of the additives the US does so things are much healthier there. It really does taste different too! It tastes a lot better, in fact.

Since Lee's been home from London, we've taken to walking a nearby 4 mile trail a few times a week. It's been nice getting away with just the two of us. Something we've never had until now! (Amy babysits the boys while we go.) It's a pretty trail with a really cool rock wall. I always wonder "Who built this?" and "How long did it take?" Lee then says, "It's amazing what you can accomplish when you don't have the internet." Too true!

The boys had their final awards ceremonies.

And a photo with Riley. Oh how we love Riley! She's been such a great friend to Will this year. I just want to squeeze her whenever I see her. She's always looking out for Will (her grandmother has seizures... awhile back she's the one we ran into at the store, the lady with a seizure dog.)

Lee went to lunch with a coworker who is moving to Dubai to be the president of a University there. Since they are moving to Dubai, they are getting rid of a lot of their stuff. He gave Lee this huge Ironman statue.

Amy put all of these dice (for a certain game) in Rainbow order.

We got a surprise visit from Anna and Stratton! Stratton's mom passed away and they flew to Utah to be there. (Mom had their kids) They wanted to bring some things back, so they took him mom's van and drove it back home. On the way, they stopped here for a cheap overnight hotel. ;) It was a lot of fun to see them, even if it was a short visit. The boys convinced Anna to play a round of Go Fish before they left.

Tyler started screaming in the bathtub the other night. Apparently he wanted to shave like Daddy and thought Amy's razor was the perfect way to start. Needless to say, his chin is now bandaged.

And then it was the last day of school! I can't believe how quickly the year flies by. It's just here before you know it. Amy finished 6th grade, Will finished 3rd and Tyler finished 1st.

It's amazing how much they grow in 9 months!

But now.... it's time for SUMMER!!!!!!!
