I made these tie-dye shirts for us. I didn't make Lee one b/c I didn't think he would wear it. Turns out he would have and then I felt bad. Sorry Lee. I'll make you one next year.
It was pretty hot out and I was a little nervous about the heat and all the people. We moved the canopy and all the chairs to the back, shady area of the yard and pulled out a box fan that we found in our attic (left from previous people.) I think the temperature wasn't too unbearable and no one was sweating profusely.
I made a ton of pulled pork and chicken. Everyone else brought sides. I think it worked out nicely.
These two.. Will and Cora... if they ever get together we will have lots of photos to pull out at their reception. I love this one with Cora's Dad (Mike) watching from the background.
We invited a new family to the ward (well, we are new as well!) These are two of their kids and their dad has a tradition where they blow-up cans. It actually sounds more dangerous than it is. At first I was like, "okkaayyy....." but after I saw it done it didn't bother me at all. It really just shoots an empty can high into the sky. You can even catch it when it comes down. The kids had a blast watching this over and over. (And that girl is 21! She looks a lot younger!)
One of our other new friends had a birthday and her daughter brought a cake to surprise her.
Everyone packed up and left around 7. Most were going to the local fireworks show. We didn't want to do that so we cleaned up the yard and planned to spend the evening in the air conditioning. Right when we were about done, the Olsens came back because Roxann had left her purse. They were shooting fireworks at their house and invited us to do that. We decided to go over there and we had a good time.
While sitting there, this random dog showed up. He was shaking like crazy (the 4th being a scary holiday for all the animals!) He had a collar but no tag so we knew he was someones beloved pet. He was also really well behaved, never barked, snipped and even sat if you told him to do so. He really was a sweet dog. And he kept right by all of us. When we went to leave, he followed us to our car and even jumped it. We could not get that darned dog out of there. I was laughing so hard. The moment you got him out, he immediately went through another door, stepped over a child, basically did anything he could to be in that car. Eventually, our friends came and got him so we could get in the car and leave. I hope he found his home!
It was a great 4th of July! Everyone slept in late the next morning as everyone was worn out! Which is how it should be. It means everyone had a lot of fun! Happy 4th!
